Transsexuals Lingling and Fangfang

Lingling and Fangfang are male to female transsexuals. They got to know each other when they were ready to take gender confirmation surgery at the Plastic Surgery Hospital in China’s Academy of Medical Sciences.

Their similar experiences made them become good friends as they took care of each other in the hospital. Both of them came from rural areas and regarded themselves as female from childhood though they are physically male. They have suffered the pain of conflict between mental gender and physical gender for a long time.

After many years of acting feminine, they decided to do the expensive gender confirmation surgery with the money they borrowed. The end goal of the surgery is to find mental peace and to be accepted by society.

The surgery gave them both great physical pain and the great joy of rebirth. They hoped that they could lead a normal life from then on.

After recovering from their surgery, they went to Hainan island in south China, to make a living by dancing for tourists. But their job was forbidden by the government due to their transexual roles. The grimness of life pushes them to an unknown future.

The story trys to show the transsexuals’ life from a feminist angle and the meaning of existence for transsexuals.
